Lucknow: The Noida International Airport project in Jewar is approaching operational readiness as construction of its first phase nears completion.Officials said nearly 95% of the work has already been finished, while the remaining components are expected to be completed by Nov 10. In the initial phase, the airport will operate with a single runway and will have an annual passenger handling capacity of around 1.2 crore travelers. Authorities estimate that approximately 150 flights could operate daily once services begin. The airport is being developed over a large land parcel in Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Around 3,300 acres will be utilised in the first phase. Overall, about 6,700 acres have already been acquired, while an additional 5,100 acres are planned to be secured in the coming months. Officials stated that construction of a second runway will begin once annual passenger traffic crosses one crore. With two runways, the airport could handle nearly seven crore passengers each year. The acquisition for the project has cost about Rs 5,000 crore, while roughly Rs 7,000 crore is being invested in construction activities. Once fully completed, the airport is planned to expand across about 11,750 acres and operate five runways. Its long-term capacity is estimated to be around 30 crore passengers annually. The project is expected to support logistics, tourism, trade in surrounding region.
