Lucknow: An Army War Museum and Convention Centre will be constructed in Nehru Enclave, Gomti Nagar, as part of a plan to develop Lucknow as a centre for defence heritage, military history and large-scale conferences. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 125 crore.Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has prepared the proposal following a request from defence minister Rajnath Singh. Under the plan, Army will transfer 33.97 acres of land, currently in its possession, to LDA for the project.LDA will use 12.87 acres for the construction of the War Museum and Convention Centre. Around 14 acres will be developed as a green belt, while the remaining 7.10 acres will be earmarked for commercial and mixed-use development. The income from these plots will help meet the cost of the project.LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar said a meeting with govt officials was held on Thursday to discuss the proposal.The War Museum will showcase the history and achievements of Armed Forces through digital technology, interactive displays and audio-visual presentations. Visitors will get information about major events, including World War I and II, the 1947-48 conflict, the 1962, 1965 and 1971 wars, and Kargil War.The museum will also have galleries for military operations along with sections on Indian Navy and Air Force. Military equipment, traditions and achievements of the armed forces will also be displayed.The project will include a convention centre, a 270-degree immersive auditorium, an open-air defence equipment display area, helicopter and tank simulators, a digital interaction zone and a military memorabilia centre.
