Lucknow: The Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) on Sunday set up a breastfeeding kiosk at its general hospital for lactating mothers visiting the OPD.The facility was installed by the department of hospital administration in collaboration with Inner Wheel Club of Lucknow Abhyudaya.The kiosk was inaugurated by SGPGIMS director, Prof Radha Krishan Dhiman, chief medical superintendent Prof Devendra Gupta, medical superintendent Prof R Harsvardhan and other doctors.Prof Dhiman said the institute plans to set up more such kiosks wherever needed.The initiative followed a study conducted by a postgraduate student of the department of hospital administration on the need for breastfeeding kiosks in OPD settings.The study found that 61% of lactating mothers faced discomfort while breastfeeding in public OPD areas, while more than 71% said a private space was their top requirement.
