A 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Japan’s northern Hokkaido region on Saturday, just days after a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Japan. The 7.1-magnitude quake caused widespread destruction, triggering an explosion at a shopping mall, toppling a factory chimney and flattening homes in the city of Yatsushiro, while also leaving roads cracked and buildings damaged. The death toll from the quake rose to 34 by Friday. This is a developing story
