Lucklnow: In view of several incidents caused by banned ‘Chinese manjha’ in the state, the Uttar Pradesh police has urged the citizens to help the authorities track down the illegal manufacture, storage, sale of banned kite strings through the emergency helpline number UP112. Additional Director General (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash in a special public appeal on Friday said that public cooperation is crucial in ensuring effective enforcement of the ban on strings such as ‘Chinese manjha’, synthetic ‘manjha’ and metal or glass-coated strings. “Citizens can report such information through the UP112 helpline. Your one piece of information can help prevent accidents and save lives,” he said.The senior officer said that the storage and sale of such banned kite strings is prohibited across the state. He also warned traders dealing in kite-flying materials not to manufacture, stock or sell banned ‘manjha’ under any circumstances, and strict action would be taken against violators.During the statewide crackdown on banned ‘manjha’, police registered 14 FIRs across 10 districts and commissionerates. The cases were lodged in Shahjahanpur (1), Meerut (1), Shamli (6), Shravasti (1), Mau (1), Fatehpur (2), Lucknow (1), and Chandauli (1). So far, 16 accused have been arrested while one remains at large.
