Lucknow: Light to moderate rain lashed several parts of the state capital on Thursday morning and again in the evening, bringing relief from humid conditions.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds accompanied the showers, while waterlogging slowed traffic in several areas.Residents woke up to overcast skies before rain began around 6 am. The showers continued in phases for nearly two-and-a-half hours.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Lucknow received 18 mm of rainfall during the morning spell till 8.30 am and later 3.2 mm from morning till 5.30 pm.The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Lucknow over the next few days, with isolated areas likely to receive short spells of heavy rain.On Thursday, the city’s maximum temperature settled at 33.6 degrees Celsius, 2.5 notches below normal, while the minimum was 26.6 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal. Humidity levels ranged between 62% and 78%.Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, said a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, along with moisture-laden easterly winds, was driving the rainfall activity.“The present weather system is likely to persist for the next few days, bringing light to moderate rainfall across the region, with isolated heavy spells,” he said.Scattered rainfall was also recorded across Uttar Pradesh. Kheri (Lakhimpur) received the highest rainfall in east UP at 62.4 mm, while Agra topped west UP with 22.6 mm.
