Hours after former Bangladesh cricket captain and ex-lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan attended a media interaction addressed by ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina in New Delhi, unidentified people allegedly attacked his house in Bangladesh’s Magura district, police said. The incident took place around 9pm at Shakib’s residence in the Keshab Mor area of Magura town, according to Md Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station.“Several miscreants threw brick chips at the house and vandalised windows. They also tried to set the house on fire,” the police officer told The Daily Star. No injuries were reported.Police said the identities of those involved were not immediately known. Security personnel have since been deployed around the property, and an investigation is underway. The attack came just hours after Shakib, who represented the Magura-1 constituency in Bangladesh’s Parliament, participated in a media interaction hosted by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia in New Delhi. The event was addressed by Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted from power last year and has since been staying in India.Authorities have not officially linked the attack on Shakib’s house to his appearance at the event, and no group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
