Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday published the final electoral roll for the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections, showing a net addition of 29.01 lakh voters compared with the mother roll of 2025. Although 2.03 crore names were deleted from the mother roll during an extensive voter list purification drive, the addition of 2.32 crore new voters ensured a 2.35% increase in the electorate’s size.According to the final electoral roll, the number of voters in Uttar Pradesh increased from 12,29,50,052 in the 2025 mother roll to 12,58,51,570 in 2026. “The revised roll reflects the outcome of around six months-long exercise involving fresh enrolments, verification of existing records, disposal of claims and objections, and removal of ineligible voters,” said official sources.Data released by the SEC show that a total of 2,32,24,805 voter-related entries were processed (added) during the revision exercise, indicating the additions to the voters list. While 2,03,23,287 names were deleted from the rolls due to reasons such as death, migration, duplication and other eligibility issues, the commission simultaneously added a greater number of new voters through fresh registrations and corrections, resulting in a net increase of 29,01,518 electors.State election commissioner Raj Pratap Singh said the large-scale deletions were part of an effort to improve the accuracy and credibility of the panchayat electoral roll ahead of the elections. The revision exercise focused on identifying duplicate entries, removing names of deceased voters and eliminating records of people who shifted from their villages or were otherwise ineligible to vote in local body elections.The district-wise data reveal significant variations across the state. Several districts registered substantial gains in voter numbers after the revision process. Lakhimpur Kheri witnessed the highest net increase of 1.38 lakh voters, Kushinagar added more than 1.2 lakh voters, while Siddharthnagar recorded a rise of 1.23 lakh voters. Ballia (1.60 lakh), Deoria (1.26 lakh) and Bahraich (87,710) also saw notable increases in their final electorates. Lucknow recorded a net increase of 30,051 voters.At the same time, some districts recorded a decline in voter numbers after the verification drive. Ghazipur reported a net reduction of 94,757 voters, Mainpuri saw a fall of 93,207 voters, while Agra (23,294), Azamgarh (60,347), Etah (23,429), Kanpur Dehat (10,759) and Hapur (366) also registered declines due to extensive deletions.
