Lucknow: Police Training Directorate of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday organised a one-day workshop on “Animal Protection”, aimed at strengthening legal awareness and improving enforcement sensitivity among police and prosecution officials.The workshop was conducted under the direction of DGP Rajeev Krishna and inaugurated by Director General (training) Rajeev Sabharwal, who highlighted the importance of animal protection laws and the need for their effective implementation. He also emphasised the critical and sensitive role of police in handling such cases.A total of 44 gazetted officers from across the state, along with joint directors and senior prosecution officers, participated in the session. Additional Director General (training) BD Paulson was also present.Experts provided detailed insights into key legislation, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the UP Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955, and the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Legal aspects related to animal transport, trade and slaughterhouses were also discussed.The workshop focused on enhancing sensitivity, awareness and investigative skills among officials, marking a significant step towards ensuring effective enforcement of animal protection laws in the state.
