Lucknow: At least two people—a woman and a child—were killed and 21 others injured in a road accident in Nepal’s Pyuthan district, officials said on Thursday. The injured included the driver and passengers, many of whom are from the UP-Nepal border areas. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased.Maharajganj district administration coordinated with Nepalese officials to ensure prompt medical assistance. District magistrate Santosh Kumar Sharma immediately spoke to the Chief District Officer of Rupandehi district in Nepal, following which the injured were admitted to Lumbini City Hospital in Butwal for treatment.As part of the emergency response, SDM Nautanwa Naveen Prasad was dispatched to the spot to oversee relief and coordination efforts, while ADM (finance) set up camp at Sonauli to facilitate coordination with Nepalese authorities. Four advanced life support ambulances along with six additional ambulances were deployed to assist in evacuation and medical support.Medical teams at the district hospital and medical college in Maharajganj have been placed on high alert, with beds reserved for any patients requiring transfer to Indian facilities.Officials said the Nepal administration is extending full cooperation in rescue and relief operations. Continuous communication is being maintained between both sides to ensure seamless coordination.Arrangements have also been made to assist families of the deceased and injured in travelling to Nepal. The District Magistrate expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured all possible assistance.
