Lucknow: In an inspiring act of humanity, the family of one Rani Devi from Madhya Pradesh donated her organs after she was declared brain dead at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), giving a new lease of life to two patients battling end-stage organ failure.An official spokesperson said that Rani Devi was admitted on March 20 with severe intracranial haemorrhage and underwent a complex neurosurgical procedure on March 23. Despite sustained efforts by the medical team, her condition did not improve. After a comprehensive evaluation, a panel of four senior consultants declared her brain dead on March 27. Following counselling by transplant coordinators and officials from State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation Uttar Pradesh, the family agreed for organ donation, turning their personal loss into hope for others.Two patients were selected from the official waiting list and successfully underwent kidney transplants. Both kidneys were transported on March 28 to transplant operation theatre, where surgeries were completed .Director Prof RK Dhiman said the case marked the second cadaveric organ transplant undertaken by SGPGI this year, highlighting the institute’s multidisciplinary expertise.
