LUCKNOW: A 16-year-old female student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hostel in Gomtinagar on Friday morning, triggering a police investigation after her family allegedly attempted to take the body to Haridwar for cremation without informing authorities. Police said a handwritten note carrying the words “I quit” was recovered from the room and is being treated as a suspected suicide note.The deceased Parul Saxena, daughter of Abhishek Saxena. She was residing in a hostel run by Sushil Trivedi in Srijan Vihar Colony under the Gomtinagar police station area while pursuing her studies.According to police, the incident came to light after information was received that the girl had died under suspicious circumstances and that her body was being removed from the hostel premises. Acting on the tip-off, a police team rushed to the location and intervened before the body could be taken away.Police officials said Parul’s father had allegedly planned to take the body to Haridwar for the last rites without notifying the police. The matter surfaced after Ritesh Ranjan Chaubey, the employer of Parul’s father, informed Gomtinagar police about the death and the circumstances surrounding the removal of the body.Following the information, police summoned the hostel owner for questioning. Trivedi told investigators that Parul had died by suicide after hanging herself in her room and that she had been staying in the hostel for educational purposes.When police reached the hostel, they found people preparing to transport the body in a car. The body had already been brought down from the ceiling fan in the presence of others present at the hostel, police said.During the preliminary investigation, police recovered a note from the room purportedly written by the student. According to investigators, the note contained the words “I quit”, which police believe may indicate suicidal intent. Officials said the handwriting and authenticity of the note are being verified as part of the investigation.The police subsequently took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Investigators are also examining the student’s personal belongings, mobile phone, and recent activities to determine whether any external factors may have contributed to the incident.Gomtinagar police said Parul’s father and other family members are being questioned regarding the sequence of events and the decision to transport the body without informing authorities. Police maintained that while initial evidence points towards suicide, all aspects of the case are being examined and the final conclusions will depend on the post-mortem report and forensic findings.Further investigation is underway.
