Lucknow: As the scale of devastation in the Vikas Nagar fire becomes clearer, appeals for help are pouring in across social media, with citizens and organisations mobilising support for over 1,000 displaced residents struggling for basic necessities.Among those leading the relief efforts is the AMU Old Boys Association Lucknow, which has stepped in to provide food and essential supplies to the affected families. In a widely shared message, the organisation said it is actively distributing meals and coordinating assistance on the ground, even as the need remains overwhelming.“Urgent requirements include polythene sheets for temporary shelter, bed sheets, basic utensils, and daily-use items,” the organisation said in an, urging people to contribute. It also clarified that Zakat funds should not be used for this purpose.Relief efforts intensified on Wednesday evening, with volunteers arranging food distribution, including poori-sabzi meals, for hundreds of victims. Several other local groups and individuals have also joined in, supplying ration, utensils, and drinking water.Visuals from the ground showed long queues of displaced families waiting for food packets, while volunteers moved through the area handing out essentials. “People have lost everything—homes, belongings, even food grains. The response from citizens has been heartening, but much more is needed,” said a volunteer involved in the distribution drive.Social media platforms have become a crucial lifeline, helping coordinate aid and amplify calls for support. Citizens have been urged to come forward and contribute generously, as relief workers continue efforts to bring some comfort to those left homeless by the blaze.
