Lucknow: State govt on Tuesday announced the release of a sum of Rs 1,247.5 crore for the legislators to be used under the Vidhan Mandal Kshetra Vikas Nidhi (MLA Local Area Development Fund) for the financial year 2026-27.According to an official statement, the amount has been sanctioned as the first instalment for development works in the constituencies of members of the state legislature.Each legislator will receive Rs 2.5 crore, including GST, for local development projects.Out of the total amount, Rs 1,000 crore has been approved for 400 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Three assembly seats are currently vacant.Similarly, Rs 247.5 crore has been sanctioned for 99 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, where one seat is lying vacant.In total, 499 legislators (400 MLAs and 99 MLCs) will receive the first instalment during the current financial year.Deputy CM Keshav Maurya directed officials of the Rural Development Department to ensure that the sanctioned funds are spent strictly in accordance with the guidelines, provisions and govt orders issued from time to time under the scheme.The MLA development fund is often one of the most visible instruments through which legislators deliver roads, drains, community halls, drinking water facilities, schools and other small but politically impactful projects. Releasing the first instalment early in the financial year gives lawmakers resources to remain active in their constituencies.The release of funds, officials said, would energise legislators across party lines, reinforce grassroots outreach and sharpen focus on governance and local development.
